me: He who rocks my world

This is the first of a series of - hopefully not too many - posts which tells you what makes me 'me'.
It makes perfect sense to think about the things that I consider as milestones in the past twenty-seven years. Top of the list is the time I became convinced that what the bible claimed of Jesus Christ is sound and credible.

I took close to half a year in 2002 to investigate and come to a conclusion of who Jesus is. Weekly bible studies on campus, intense debates over suppers, endless questioning and the occasional denial (because it is easier not to think about things sometimes) went on for months.

Then just
as a crime scene investigator would come to understand what had happened based on the evidence, the facts laid out in front of me clearly and plainly.
  • Jesus is a true historical being who lived two thousand years ago
  • He claimed to be God who created and has authority over the world (including us)
  • The death and resurrection recorded by many witnesses is credible
If Jesus is God, then what He said about the world must be true. What I - and all other Christians - believe in and are willing to die for is as simple as six facts:
  1. God created the world and he rules over everything.
  2. I refused to recognise who God is. I want to live by my own rules.
  3. The punishment of my rebellion is death and judgment.
  4. Jesus who lived in perfect submission under God, died in my place.
  5. God raised him up from the dead and made Him rule over the world.
  6. If I believe that, God accepts me and I will live with Him forever on earth and in heaven.
Today, God rocks my world. Sometimes He makes me feel loved and happy, sometimes it is painful and long-suffering. But one thing I know for sure - Jesus is the one thing I never want to give up. And I have a family who stands with me against all odds."If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. 35For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me and for the gospel will save it. 36What good is it for a man to gain the whole world, yet forfeit his soul? 37Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul? 38If anyone is ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when he comes in his Father's glory with the holy angels."
- Jesus Christ (from the Bible - Mark 8:34-38)

five reasons why you will come back

Follow me if you are...
1. a friend and want to understand what keeps me sane
2. a Christian and want to hear how God rocks my world
3. a diver and want to know why the sea rules my heart
4. a foodie and want to see what makes my plate
5. a curious cat who is just interested in a Singaporean girl

I am busy planning for a 37-day-trip in Europe. But when I am taking a break from surfing travel sites and crunching numbers to stay within budget, I will be writing here.

The next few posts will bring you through what makes me 'me'. So check back again soon!
